Launch (Eww Had Warts Removed Too)

Okay I know that this is in the wrong section, but the race section doesnt seem to get the traffic that these section does.

Here is my question. Tommarow ethier me or my mom will be running my car at the track. (I dont know if I will be able to because I just had 2 warts removed from my foot and I have a hole that is bigger than a quarter in my foot! Plantars warts, yumm!) Anyways, what RPM should we try out first? And should I feather the clutch or just pull my foot off the clutch the quickest I can? Thanks you guys!

That all depends. What kind of tires are you running? I will assume street tires which are usually very hard. You want to avoid the water box and only do a quick burnout to clean off the tires. You will need to launch at a low rpm and slip the clutch. Otherwise, you are going to smoke the tires and your 60' time is going to be the suxor. You will just have to experiment with launch rpms. You can also let out a bit of air from your tires.

I have almost brand new Nitto 555s 245/45/17 less than 1000 miles. I dont think that I am going to even just spin the tires to clean them off ethier. I am thinking that I will just take the RPMs up to about 3000 and then feather it a little! And what pressure do you think will work the best!

You are going to have to find the sweet spot launching, to low of rpm you'll dead hook and stumble, to high and you'll cook the tires right off the car. The trick is to get the car moving without cooking the clutch, it may take 5-10 runs to find what works best for you. Your first few runs you should learn the tree and work on your reation time and 60's, if you take your time and not worry about the bigend numbers it will benefit you later.

Every season I take my first 5 runs and run hard to the 330' mark and coast it out. This is just to dial in the R/T and 60's. Once I feel like I have it down I'll make full passes, just so I won't have the let down seeing that I fudged up my 60' times. Being that I ran a adjustable front and rear suspension gave me the chance to make nessesary adjustments to help the car hook.

Hope that helps you, be sure to post up your numbers good or bad. Advice can be given through nuumber to help you improve in certain areas.

Good luck!!!!!!

Yeah I am probably going to run in the 16s the first trip down! I dont care though it will be my first time, and I will be having fun! I think I am going to go to about 2700-3000 and feather it or at least tell my mom to! And I am not worried about R/T at this point because I know that that come with expirence! Thanks you guys!

i wouldnt let my mom drive my car. haha. Not joking.

I have seen girls try to race cars at the track and one forgot it was in reverse....and yeah.

What i did when my car was fairly stock i actually let it bog slightly and come out of the hole real strong and i got 2.0 60' and 14.4-14.5's. Also i ride my clutch out a bit before letting it go all the way. Works great and i got a 1.9 on street tires doing it that way.

Good luck!

Yeah well my mom has a lot of fun in my car! My dad cant drive a stick because of 8 knee surgeries and he cant get his knee inbetween the steering wheel and door, so all of our cars have been automatics except mine! My mom can drive a stick and she can do it well! I mean she would be picking me up from school and burning rubber and peeling out. She may not want to race it so we will see. But I trust my mom driving it, but not my sister lol.

But hopefully my foot will feel good enough that I can race tommarow! And I am just going try launching at 2700-3000 and then feather the clutch like you said! I also have the stock 2.73s if that matters at all! Thanks you guys!

mwahahaha sounds like the story of my life up here in Seattle. Past two testntune wednesdays were rained out for me. Not that our cars are exactly the same, but I have to either massively ride my clutch or not floor it until the tires grip in order for my 60 foot times to be respectible, for street tires. And about your psi - I keep mine @ 32psi because with street tires, anything lower than what's recommended could 1. hurt the integrity of the rubber, and 2. create more drag on the ground (which is NOT good for go-fast times). If they were drag radials it'd be wise to have a lower psi, but not on streets... though some guys inevitably do it and my guess is see absolutely no gains. If it's your first time at a tree, really watch the guys who've been there before - key in on when they hit the gas and when they leave the line. I know I didn't and my reaction times were horrid. Good luck (whenever the rain lets up, lol).
