Speedometer

Hello all, I recently bought a 97 mustang GT and the speedometer does not work the guy I bought it from said it just needs a gear. He told me it has different gears in the car but he didnt know what size. Is there a way i can find out what gears are in the car without ripping it apart? Also how hard would installing the gear be for the average person?

Jack up the rear end so that both rear wheels are off of the ground.
2. Put a mark on the drive shaft.
3. Have somebody spin a rear tire slowly once around and count how many times the drive shaft goes around.
4. If it goes around 3 and 3/4 times you have 3.73s If it goes just a little more than 4 times you have 4.10s! Hope this helps!

Installing the speedometer gear will be super simple! All you have to do is jack up the car and then on the rear portion of the tranny there will be a place that needs the gear!

more than likely you are gonna need a white gear, because it ranges from 3.55-4.30's.
