Clutch time....

Ok, so i bought my pony with 30k on it back about 3 1/2 yrs ago. As soon as i bought it it got upgraded... everywhere. Put a King Cobra clutch in it. About 3 weeks of track time after driving for 1k miles breakin the throwout bearing made noise just as the factory did. Now here it is about 20k miles later and alot of track time it doesnt feel right anymore. I used Mickey Thompsons on it for a day at the track and it doesnt feel very good.

Before i could laucn on street tires pretty well by giving it a certain amount of RPMs and just side stepping the clutch and it would bog slightly and then take off giving me pretty nice 60'. Now i try to do that and it just dies... doesnt stall but doesnt move then i push the clutch back in and i rev it and let it out and it takes off. Kinda embarrassing when trying it for the first time last week and getting laughed at, but then i walked on them.

Also throw out bearing still makes noise so i wanna get a new clutch. It hits WAY up top now and i hate it. I have never had a problem with any clutch in any of my cars. Just this one. Then again i dont track any of my other cars i have had.

So my current set-up:

King Cobra clutch package. Machined the factory flywheel. Put in Steeda quadrant and adjustable cable.

With that said... i was looking at a SPEC Stage 1. Any good ? Should i look into others? Right now i havent driven it due to the fact if i dont like something about my car and its not perfect.... i dont drive it. I didnt drive it for months because of my SLP LM 1's I HATED THEM. So now its up until i figure out a clutch to go with....

Thanks

Casper

i would say go ahead and get a centerforce dual friction, you will hate the heavy clutch of a spec. i have had mine for over 30k miles launching at 6500 rpms and it holds up like champ

There are so many different opinions on the main three: Ram, Centerforce, and Spec. From what I've seen most people like the feel of the centerforce more if its a car that is driven on the street a lot. However, the majority of the older guys I've talked to have said that they have gotten more passes on a Ram or Spec than Centerforce. But I truely just think it's the luck of what you get when you get the car and how you are driving it. If you're driving style changes just a little bit with the RPM's that the clutch is spinning it and change the amount of miles you get out of it. I think any of those 3 brands are really nice clutches but I agree with tim, you will like the feel of the centerforce.
