Head sawp/ Lt headers

Ok i've heard it being done but no one evver provides details. Is it practical that while the heads are off that i install the headers on it at that time then place the head and header in the car all together. i would assume the head should seat in place easily while doing the installation .

I plan to get the modular headshop heads with the worked vavle train and add some Hi Tech stage 2 cams to it.

Also had a question on adjustable crank gears. i've seen them around, are they a good way to degree the cam ?

yeah i figure manuvering it in there at least will be easy to do. of course the H pipe will not be in there . exhaust shop is down the way abour .3 miles from my lot where i work on it at. he will resize the exhaust for 30 bucks ftw ! lol. I just was wondering if it would fit easy. i found a set that clears the trans and everything with no issues .

I used the TFS adjustable crank gears for a +8 deg advance. They were just about on the money as far as adjustment. You can go from -8 to +8 retard/advance with them in increments of 2 deg.

depends on the header, flowtechs have two primaries that go on each side of the sterring shaft so i think that would make it harder

A lot of LTs are 2 pc on the drivers side and you have to assemble the header around the steering shaft. It is a good time to do it but as far as putting them on the head and dropping them into place, it's not gonna happen. Easiest way is tedious to say the least - put the headers in the bay and then install the heads and torque down. You will now play contortionist using a fine mechanism shorty ratchet wrench and bolt up the headers. If you are going to do a lot of work on this car, you might want to go ahead and make some modifications to get to them easier. Look on the bright side - after it is done you will experience relief and be happy!

Like stated before you CANNOT drop the passengers header down pasted the block with heads off from the top. And even drivers side is tricky. Sure as he'll no while already bolted to the cylinder head. Easiest way to do it with a stock k member is to jack the car up atleast 2ft. Support the car with jack stands under the sfc's or pinch welds. Then drop the k member down. This will expose the header location the most. Honestly my bbk LT's are 1 piece and slide right around the steering shaft without removal. But others have to be slightly messaged or shaft run through the middle of them.

Nick is a good guy give him a call and he'll give you some suggestions based on what your wants and needs are. He's been very helpful with my cam and heads situation.

Nick also sells the trickflow adj crank sprockets. They work fine and since they come 2pc you can degree each camshaft separately like previously stated upto 8 degrees in either direction. DO NOT do camshaft gears. Been hearing problem after problem about them. These will do everything you need them to do. Only problem is the rear crankshaft sprocket for the drivers side camshaft rides halfway off the keyway on the crankshaft snout and if the keyway breaks off due to stress....BOOM bye bye motor. So they recommend do all your degreeing. Then when your done and they are still on the crank snout. Drill a hole right through both sprockets. And get a locking pin, dowel, or something along those lines to tie the two together to take some of the stress of the rear sprockets keyway.

One last thing. If your gonna do LT's...buy some good header gaskets. And
Locking header bolts. So you don't have to go back in there after a week to retighten and with a stock k member that would be a bitch.

I have BBK LT's on my '96 that I want to remove and put on my '98. When removing them would I be able to get by with just jacking the motor up? I'll have the motor out of my '98 so installing them shouldn't be a problem.
