Vapor filter??

So my friend sent me a pic of his car and some stuff he's done to his engine since i've been gone. I saw this little "mini-filter" he has on hooked onto somewhere on the top of his engine. it's like 2 inches tall and cylindrical. I remember hearing or reading something about it releases some kind of vapor from the engine. has anyone else heard of people doing this??

Really it does nothing, well power wise. I have seen them in the oil filler hole on the valve cover.

ahhhhh i see. Yeah, I wouldn't think it'd be a power gainer. But helping some fumes get out of the engine probably counldn't be a bad thing.

I think this is where some ppl have put a water serpator inbetween the pcv line to catch the oil, but let the vapors bypass, to keep oil out of their intake because of excessive blow by.
