my winter build thread
so i havent really made a build or intro thread so here it is for those who dont know.
My name is Tom and i live in CT. I have a 98 GT i have been modding and fixing for 3 years. It has come time for my winter build. Now I have already done a full pi swap with many more bolt-ons. Here is my plan for this winter: 1. PBR brake upgrade up front with SS lines all around 2. BBK tuned length headers 3. MM FLSFC 4. New Rack and pinion and bushings along with all new tie rods 5. Tranny rebuild 6. Might do some mild cams I will most likely add more to the list as i desire more items and also if anyone wants to suggest more items to me that would be cool to ![]() PICS ![]() ![]() ![]()

If your rebuilding the tranny, shift kit is a must! Gear it and cam it dude!
I bought my car, speedometer is way off by about 20 so i believe its geard with 3.73's, but we will find out when i do my front seal forsure, i also think its cammed because it has a loppy idle, inhales gas and pulls good. Plus do full exhaust, i drive with the windows down in the cold just to hear my car.

Hey 96GT do a little investigating. I see a orange MGW shifter handle and a stock clutch cable setup...this leads me to think. A shift kit won't fit in his t45
![]() Nice job bud but one suggestion. Don't waste your time on shortys. IMO seriously not worth it. Takes the same time to do shorts as LT's and if your doing this as a Winter build, means you have time to save up, sell your current mid pipe and for less than $500 (minus whatever you get for your current mid pipe) But nice progress so far. Btw I have a few buddy's out in ct dunno where exactly your from but they run around with a few Cobra's, a redfire 03, black 04 on black saleens, and a black 98 cobra with a navigator swap.

Lol iPhone ftw. It's called zoom in you can see part of an orange handle under the black shifter ball. And it's all good just easy cuz 9.9 times out of 10 you say shift kit people are gonna assume...well a shift kit...for an automatic lol

thanks guys. Yes it has an mgw orange handle shifter and i need to upgrade the shift cable setup. so add that to the list.
also speedstang, i am only saying the shorties because i already have them brand new in my garage and i also have 2 h pipes 1 catted 1 o/r. so i might sell em and get longtubes and a diff h-pipe with some kind of cats but i need to pass emissions. what would you suggest cuz i can obviously sell both midpipes and headers for a set-up that i dont have to swap every 2 years to pass emissions. also im in thompson, CT.

I say LT's with a catted mid pipe. I prefer x's but if you like h's that's on you lol. I hear ya on already having the parts. But even better cuz you could probably damn near pay from the LT's and catted x by selling your current shorty setups.

Yay! Good man SLP> all haha I have bbk LT's and catted x but if I didn't find this steal on them I woulda ended up with Mac lt's and a VRS x pipe. Just gotta out in your order wayy in advanced for the Mac LT's cuz there made to order. If your on svtp email someone from stage 3 motorsports and tell them you've been told by others on that forum that they can do $340 shipped for chrome LT's.

no need for tools for the tie rods...break the castle nut off..leave the castle nut at the top of the threads and few down but not so the spindle sticks through..then take a dead blow hammer or brass hammer and hit it down..should come right out..fork's usually break the boots.. this is more safe...

im not talking about a fork. I have knocked many of tie rods out before. Its actually better just to take a hammer and hit the side of the spindle where the tie rod goes through. Knock it there a couple of times and out it come. I was talking about to actually take the tie rods out of the steering rack cuz im replacing them. But thanks for the help anyways. I was also talking about my e sockets and some tube wrenches and stuff cuz i will be also taking off the front brakes at the same time to get ready for my pbr brake upgrade with ss lines

Nice project u got going hows the progress been? Also load up some more pics as u go
Also GL not stripping the caliper bolts, those star bit bolts are so lame, thank god the new ones are a hex bit, but still not all that much better, they should have really just put a normal freaking bolt on them from the factory lol.
