Clutch questions

OK, I am about to put some 3:73 gears in my car. I'm going to buy the gears, a new clutch, ford racing ring and pinion installation kit and a steeda tri ax shifter. Should i go ahead and buy the trac loc rebuild kit and just call it a day. I figure I might as well do everything while im in there. It is the kit with the carbon disc, same used on shelbys. Please give me some input because if it is not needed, I can save 100 bux.

It's the same dif used on the 03/04 cobra's and supposedly some 05+ shelbys? Idk 05+ doesn't really exsist to me lol.

Okay first off some questions. Do you run on the highway ALOT or no? Are you seriously that worried about mpg, and what exhaust do you have, something chambered like flowturds are going to piss you off with any gears with drone.

Make sure you get a complete rear end install, also what clutch are you eyeing?

Also are you sold on the tri-ax? Can I swade you towards MGW? You'll be much happier and never look back. MGW>all IMO and ask most anyone that has ever used one, you'll get the same answer.

I live in Houston so I get on the highway everyday but just to a few exits. I have magnaflow exhaust but I am about to install roush side exhaust system. what is mgw. I jst need to know if it is necessary to buy this kit. My track loc is fine as it sits, would it be a good upgrade though?

Here is the deal. I have 3000 bux free to spend. I have decided that I want to do the gears, clutch and roush body kit with exhaust. I am going to do a trick flow pi swap later but I also need to buy equipment to paint my car. I used to paint cars but I sold all of my equipment a while back.

Yeah it's mostly just piece of mind especially if you have 80k + miles on the car. It will make a little more solid connection in posi and less slippage than stock clutches, plus it is a bit stronger

MGW is a brand of shifter like Steeda. Best prices for them is lastcallracing.com that's where I got mine.

And if your only doing a couple exits a day. I really suggest 4.10's. Stock is 3.27 and a jump from 3.27-3.73 is not that big. I mean I can cruise on the highway doing 70mph in 5th at about 2600rpms, where as stock as like 2200. That's with 4.10's so it's not that bad. And I've gotten 24mpg on the highway with them too,

Did you see my post about the rims. I found the hypercoated rims on ebay and they all match,

LOOOL same! My dad has a 08 GT and always tell me i can drive it when i want, but i have more fun driving my car, no abs, no traction control. Keeps you more on edge, you know? Plus im the only sn95 GT around here.

Also 3.73's are a nice gear, i had 3:91's in a '63 falcon. Pulled awesome.

Lol yeah my ex's had a friend with an 09 GT fully loaded. And use to brag about it all the time. I'm like hey bro..I could afford that car any day of the week, but I'd take my $4k 96 with manual seats, no abs, no traction control no nada. Plus mine weights a 1000 less and will outrun his anyway. Plus any pansy can drive a hydraulic clutch lol.

Will do then, I think I want to go with the Tri ax, its a little bit cheaper and I have heard nothing but good things, why do you suggest the mgw?

i have two buddys right them on there 02 and 03's and personally i think the shifter is wayyyy too close ratio...i feel no definition of gears..driving theirs sometimes i go 2nd-5th or the 1st-4th...i dont like it, the handle itself is nice..id prefer the pro-5.0 base with a steeda handle over that cuz its more solid feeling..but then 5th gear on a pro-5.0 sucks..its like a forward reverse..its out like a mile and up..there is no banging a 5th gear lol...and theres no comparison to the mgw's adjust-ability, how smooth it is, and its the quietest shifter on the market..uses the factory lower boot as the stock does, unlike steeda or pro 5.0 were you have to cut it up to get it to fit right..so ultimately not a very good seal...IMHO
