Walbro GSS 342 install?????
Hey guys, I just ordered the Walbro gss342 with the install kit which I figured I needed(did I?) Anyway, I've never dealt with gas tanks and fuel systems. I can do a head swap but I haven't done a fuel pump yet. Could someone give me a few steps on what I need to do??? I just got 30# injectors and I wanted to have a pump to deliver the fuel, not the stock one that flows a ?????????? amount. Figured 100 bucks isn't that bad to see how it works. I wanna supercharge in the future and this pump will do the trick I'm sure. Although, the supercharger kit will prolly come with one! Any help is greatly appreciated.

Im running that pump on my setup.
Really all you gotta do is drop the tank which is the 2 straps. Your going to need to get a new filler tube gasket. Just buy one now. Once you undo the straps your going to have to lean the tank and pull the filler tube out. Might I add your going to want to run your car almost completely dry. New your going to need a set of ford fuel line disconnects. There like little circles and your going to push them into the clip to release it. Some of the ones you buy are too thick so try it out on the front of the car first. Just to make sure they work and so you know how to use them. Once you do that you can slide the tank out (you also have to undo a evap line and some connectors but thats nbd). take a hammer and a screw driver and tap the top of the cap counter clock wise. The cap spins on. If you look at it you'll understand it. Once thats done just pull it out and replace the pump. Remember to solder and heat shrink the wires to prevent an explosion or fire. Slap it back together and have fun

Ok, thanks for the response man!! That sounds straight forward. I do have all sorts of disconnect tools for ac/fuel lines. So, there is a quick fit fitting in the back by the tank too?? I'll disconnect that and btw, I did buy the install kit from lethal performance, does that include the gasket your speaking of?? And yeah, I've got an SCT/X3 SF3 device which is tuned by Bama tuning at AM. So they can tune for injectors and fuel pumps. Now, I'll buy a soldering kit, but what do you mean by heat shrink?? Do I need an insulator covering all parts of exposed wire? I know I'm supposed to cut the old wire near the harness(coming from the car, right?) and attach a new harness to plug into the new pump. Let me know if I'm correct in my assumptions, thanks big time!!!

why do you need 30lbers? 24's would be PLENTY fine for your setup...honestly even 19's would still work...
and heat shrink wrap is a wrapping you slide over the wires before you solder or make a connection, once thats done, pull the heat wrap over the connection part...use a cigarette lighter and hold it under it til it shrinks to a tight fit...pretty simple...

Actually, I didn't even install the 30's yet, I actually sent em back to AM to swap for 24's. Reason is that Bama tuning, which I use to tune for my mods until I get it on a Dyno, says they only tune up to 24 at the most. Besides, like you said, with my mods they'd have to cut the fuel supply back so far at idle that it would be pretty much dribbling out of the injector, rather than spraying. So, until I supercharge, 24's will do the trick. I'm actually waiting on my heads and cams from Nick at MHS, and hoping I'll have em by the end of the month. Once those come in, I can install my l/t's, off road H, fuel injectors and a few other things I got that go on the top of the motor(wires, coil packs, ect...) oh, and I'm putting my EGR system back in since the guy I bought the car from had it deleted. I'm waiting to do that too. Then I can get my inspection that's due. So, I cut old wire harness and connect new wire harness supplied by the install kit?? And make sure all open connections are covered? Or else explosion????? haha!!

Yea the only reason i say heat shrink is that electrical tape will melt off in gasoline. You dont want to live wires bouncing around in a gas tank lol.
But yea theres a connection on the fuel hat you need to disconnect. Yes you have to splice into the OE harness. Its easy though

And at the end of the wiring harness in the new install kit, there's round connectors? Do I just snip those off and use a butt connector or solder and do the shrink wrap?

You should have went here before buying that gss fuel pump, this would have been a lot easier! This kit is made specifically for our cars.

Yeah, I did read that prior to buying the GSS 342, but it's all so confusing I just figured I'd buy the gss342 and tune my pcm to run it. I think they can do that. I have an SCT tuner. Besides, I figured I'd try a $100 pump b4 I go spending 200-250 on something special. I know there IS a way to make this pump work, just hoping I can install it right! lol but thanks for the suggestion!
