Front Brakes HELP!

I have been replacing brake pads, rotors, shocks and struts on my 97 mustang GT. I also am installing lowering springs. I have completed the rear of the car and today I decided to do the front. I have a repair manual for my model mustang that explains procedure very well, but skips some details. I am currently trying to remove the front break caliper. I understand that the piston part of the caliper pivots on the upper slide, but to do this you must remove the bolt that the other end of the caliper pivots on. This is were the problem comes in. it appears that the bolt is a torx head (i believe) and a) i was wondering if anyone could verify this. b) some tricks of the trade in getting that thing out without stripping it out would be helpful and c) why in the world is it not just a regular damn bolt. Help would be much appreciated. I would love to get this thing on the ground today.

Well, a simple way to get it out is to get the thingy to remove torx bolts and try it. If it doesn't fit quite right, it's not a torx head. That might help you...

there should be just twoo 15mm bolts on there. i think the two your talking about wont take the whole caliper off, just part of it. if you look behind there should be one 15mm on top, and one on bottom, when you take those off the caliper should come completly off. they may not be 15mm cause im just going by memory, but thier close to that.

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY A T-50 TORX BIT IS WHAT YOU NEED. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK ONE UP AT ANY HARDWARE OR AUTO SUPPLY STORE FOR LESS THAN 5 BUCKS. YOU MAY WANT TO BUY A MULTI PACK THOUGH, I AM NOT POSITIVE ON THE SIZE.( THAT IS THE ONE I HAVE THAT SHOWS THE MOST WEAR SO I ASSUME THAT IS IT, THE BREAKS ARE ABOUT ALL I USE THEM FOR.) YOU CAN GET ONE WITH A SOCKET ATTACHMENT. PLACE THE BIT HEAD INTO THE BOLT AND APPLY INCREASINGLY FIRMER PRESSURE UNTIL IT BREAKS FREE. I WOULD BE CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS, MAKE SURE THE BIT STAYS SQUARE TO THE BOLT BECAUSE THEY STRIP OUT PRETTY EASILY.

DAMN IF I KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH USING A REGULAR OLD HEX HEAD BOLT ON THESE THINGS BUT DODGE SEEMS TO BE ABOUT THE ONLY DEALER THAT STILL DOES.

Thanks I was pretty sure that they were a torx. Just wasnt for sure. I believe someone has already done a number on them. (stripped) I'm not sure how I'm going to get em out. I even clamped some vice grips on em. I know how to take the entire caliper off with the two 15 mm bolts, but I need to replace pads. Thanks
