New engine or supercharger?


to get a big amount of HP increase in my 98 GT should i take the stock engine out and put, say a Cobra engine in, or just put in a supercharger?

If you sc your stock 98 and put some gears and exhuast on your car, you'll be able to spank the pants off a cobra until 2003, then ur screwed. If you have dough, build your motor so it can take boost, then throw a nice sc on her, and u'll be well past the cobra mark.

well i'm not really looking to do this right now but more in the future. would it be wiser to do as 96RagTop says or buy a Cobra engine and then put a big SC on it and upgrade it? or what?

depends on what your lookin to build and again, your budget. if you want a good street car thats fun and drivable than yeah do like 96RagTop said. but if you want more, the cobra motor will always be a better platform to build a monster. if you really have the $$$, take droppedbass87's suggestion of a TT, but on a 4v.

or do a pi swap and a nice single turbo, can do the whole thing for around 2500 if you can work with your hands...

good luck cuz you have to get a tubular k member and a arms..700 bucks..intercooler and piping kit 300 bucks..bov and wastegate 300 or more..injectors 300 bucks...hotside for turbo around 1500..turbo its self 500..good descent tune 300 bucks..

close to 4 grand

not if you know where to look, u can do it and then have it tuned for around 3k(thats stretching it as long as u go used though u should be fine, just be careful with used turbos and injectors for sure). anyway this is the way i plan on going atleast not trying to start a bunch of drama over prices

but the best part about doing it this way, he can get things piece by piece, doesnt need the mone for the whole swap right away....

imo its always better to take your time with things and look them over thoroughly, this will give him the oppurtunity to do so and not jump on the first turbo that spools....
