Just informing you that you will feel maybe slight better throttle response and thats about it staying on 87. A 195 thermostat wont cause pinging unless its not opening. For the money you're spending on a tuner get gears, an cai, finish the pi swap and smile with that. Timing isnt all about "adding more ignition" thats not the only factor to do with timing. Until you're running a high compression engine you're only changing things that dont need to be changed. Your compression is at 9.0:1 right now, do a full pi SWAP you should be at roughly 10.5:1. A pi engine should be at 10.0:1. Until you hit usually about 11.0:1 then you should be fine with TR55GP's. After all that is done finish full exhaust work THEN get a tune. Until then you're not really freeing anything up with an 87 tune. There isn't much performance to be made with 87. Trust me i run 87 in my car, but in Canada we dont get 93, we get 91 or 94. 94 is about 1.48 a liter over here which is very costly.

I have a pair of PI heads, fully assembled, sitting on my shelf in my garage, I just don't have the funds for the head swap quite yet. I'm getting gears and I already have a CAI system. The only reason I'm doing the PI intake swap is my NPI intake cracked somewhere I can't see. It even has the aluminum coolant cross over. lol As a full time college student, my funds are quite limited right now. So, what's happening this month is about all that will happen for a while. So far, the car has a j-mod in the trans valve body, Steeda under drive pulleys, CAI, cat back exhaust, and an aluminum drive shaft out of a Lincoln Mk VIII. As far as the cooler plugs and thermostat goes, I was just going by what my tuner/ mechanic told me to do based on his professional opinion and experience. I can trust him. Heck, his T-bird is running high 10's in the 1/4 with 660 HP and full weight, through a 4R70W. I don't mean to come off as a jerk, in case I am, but that's what I working off of.

Mine runs between 195 and 200 in the heat of Arizona or in the desert cold (25 is usually about the coldest). I have a 192, stock thermo. I would use a handheld and check the actual temp.

LOL ford really got their use out of the 4.6, only half the trucks and cars they made had it.

No kidding, its 1.189 a liter today for 87, but it only costs 30$ to fill up the winter beater and that lasts a week.
