alright... update. we have found out that the engine is out of a 87-93 model and it has a world class t-5 tranny. 3.73 posie traction and it was held in by one bolt that was backing out. we fixed that so....

cool man keep us posted. Just cause the heads are cast dont mean they arent after market. Look at them see if you see any casting numbers anywere under the valve covers on the heads themselfs.

And before people bug you about it, its called "Trac Lok" for a ford limited slip differential. Mopar has "Sure Grip", but "Posi" is a GM trademark sort of thing.

3.73's are a perfect gear, i have them in my '96.

Keep us updated!

Ok now after further research and test driving, we have determined ill need a new clutch and tranny or rebuild kit for it. What I mean by posie is both wheels spinning all the time. Not traction loc where one tire spins til the clutches tighten and then both wheels spin. Unless thats what limited slip is, I get them confused all the time. But yes both wheels spin at all times. Also finally tuned her up and rerouted and spliced some wires back to their original locations. Are the fans on these cars constantly run ?

No they do not always run. They should come on at 215 i believe. They should shut off. You sound like you could have a short to power somewhere.

Well its probably a relay issue. It has a relay from.a diffrent car that just so happen to fit under the fuse box lid. The fan wires were cut and they had a toggle switch ran around hanging in the driver door, so everytime youd flip it the switch would start to heat up so I said screw that. So I found the ires and hooked them back up, only three, and now as soon as the ignition is on the fan is on. So ill have it figured out sooner or later. Commen sense told me it doesnt run all the time but it never hurts to ask.

Ok heres an update. Newyears eve I went to my father-in-laws and cranked her up. She ran like a clock and the fan operated as it should. Christmas eve my father in law took her out to test drive her and he jerked and snatched on her hard which I particulary didnt like but I guess it blew it out from all that sitting it did. So now all I need to do is change the clutch, rebuild the tranny, replace the throttle body to a bigger one and the mafs, get a speedo gear and still have to find a front bumper and get some fresh tires. Then after a few months repaint Crystal White and thats it. Oh yeah, and a Hurst shifter knob.

Good to hear.

You can port your throttle body if you wanted to instead. A larger maf will do absolutely nothing for you right now, maybe 5hp after a dyno tune. What gears are in it? You must know that to change the speedo gear accordingly. Also posi is strictly GM, Ford is only Trac Lok being a limited slip diff which is what your car is.

the tb is already ported and polished but it still isnt large enough, another words it isnt port matched to my cobra intake. ive already put a bigger maf housing on the car to see what it did and it stumbled at a certain rpm, so thats my bottleneck. because the tb isnt as big as what a larger maf is metering so it stunbles with too much fuel and not enough air when it passes the tb. I have 3.73 gears and both tires spin in the same direction meaning it has traction loc or whatever you call it. not limited slip. limited slip is where one tire has power going to it til the "clutches" have enough force on them to lock up both tires to spin. traction lock is where both tires spin at all times no matter what kind of driving your doing. atleast thats my understanding of it. but I know both of my mustangs act diffrently when the peddle is to the floor from a dead stop or going sideways. well this weekend I took the upper intake manifold off to reroute all my vacum hoses and replacedy cracked tps and drilled and tapped a new hole for my throttle body because I discovered a stud wrenched in sideways. so as always its coming along.

Nope, you have clutch disks in your differential. True posi was back in the late 60's and early 70's on gm leaving both wheels spinning at the same time. Your differential acts a standard normal one until one spins then the clutch disks grab allowing both to spin.

ok,update. finally took tranny out and clutch. because this was a 93 t5 borgwarner mounted on a 95 bellhousing the tip of the input shaft did not sit in the pilot bearing as it should and ate that out and worn a line around the shaft which inturn wore the bearing out for the input and 4th which iswhy itwould grind alittle putting it in 4th. 3rd was worn but not as bad as second and first was fine. the output shaft was torn up by the lack of bearings and the tranny not sitting right cuz it was held in by one bolt and they jerked and snatched on it. my drive shaft has a 1in. spacer due to the shorter tranny and it had only three bolts and I took them out with my fingers they werent even tight. so, we are now putting a 01 tremec t5 in it useing the 93 tailhousing because in 01 they switched to a magnetic pickup style speedo. a new flywheel will be put in and a zoom clutch in a couple of more weeks.

Well got the clutch and flywheel, new tranny and all that good stuff. Well I went against my better knowledge of mustangs and screwed myself. My bellhousing is the 87-93 type and they are shorter as in about a 1 1/2 inches shorter so the 01 tranny is too long. That means now I need a 5.0l housing from 94-95 because they made it longer to accomidate the driver and shifter position. If you call summit they will tell you the dimentions between the two diffrent years. I guess this is what I get for a 1000 car, lol. Cant complain too much.
