Mustang takes forever for rpm's to drop

I have a 1996 GT and i don't think anything is wrong with the engine but for some reason the rpms dont come down really that fast.. Its really hinders my shifting because the rpms are really high when the clutch goes in i can't hammer down on the next gear. I can still shift pretty good but if i go to hard it doesn't accept the gear. Does my car have like a 10,000 pound flywheel or something?

My '02 had this issue and hated it as well

In my case, the computer "hangs" the throttle and seemed to me it was only in the higher gears (4th~5th) that did it. I had my tuner turn off this little abomination a long time ago, but don't recall an issue in the lower gears. I figure your pre-New Edge ride has the same deal, but I don't know. Going alum. fly here over the Winter, so will get even less hang than now

Yes, that is a function controlled by the dashpot values in the EEC. A tune can correct this.

Did u happen to just tune it with an SCT tune or something? My car never had the problem until I tuned it. Stock tune it ran fine, SCT tune the rpms would hang. The tuners at BAMA sent me several different tunes and helped it a little bit but I ended up just restricting the air to the IAC and its been fine ever since.

No its bone stock. I have noticed this in all the 96-98 mustangs i have seen. Its not like really really bad. But It kinda hinders me from shifting quickly im thinking because when i go to hammer the next gear the revs are still to high. Or my tranny sucks.... I only notice it when i actually pay attention to it.
