Gear swap on a 130k mile 96 gt

So i have heard some horror stories about just throwing the gears in without getting the rebuild kit for the posi. Like My car 2 wheeled nice all last summer but randomly at the last little run i had in the car i swung out onto road and the car just kinda caught on the back left tire and left a solid 10 feet of rubber ... I didn't even know a stock 96 could do that lmao. But i was not impressed . Is my Posi worn out or was it just because of all the weight on one tire? I know the system isn't very sophisticated so im thinking its still okay only I cant really go and find out right now because of winter and the car is put away. But i would like to know if i should shell out on the posi rebuild kit. I really want the 3:73 gears! I have heard very good things. But im thinking i should... What your guys opinions?

My car had 160,000 miles on it and I redid the whole thing. Itll pay off to go ahead with the Posi Kit. because if your only getting one wheel spinning its not good lol.

Thats what im thinking. This isn't something to cut corners with haha. Just a little strapped for cash thats all. Would you say i should just get the posi rebuild kit? The mechanic im getting to do this said the bearings are nice and "worn in" and they shouldn't be a problem. He didn't say anything about the posi rebuild. Its another 100 bucks right?
