Dyno numbers are in...

This is the conversation between the tuner and myself. Mind you I'm paraphrasing.

Me:"Hey man, just saw you called. What's up?"

Tuner: "Well I was just out here playing around with your car. You've got some problems to work out, but the car made 490 hp at the wheels."

Me: "490hp?"

T: "Yeah, I probably could put race gas in the thing and get over 500 hp all day."

Me: "But isn't that a little much for a stock bottom end?"

T: "Well it pulled up to 10lbs of boost on the first pull, so I backed some timing out of it to bring it down to 460. It's nosing over at about 5200 RPM, you've got that to deal with, and some exhaust leak issues. I can't get the thing to idle right because the o2's are going everywhere"

Final numbers, 461hp, 454tq at the wheels. I'll post the final numbers after I fix the problems.

Needless to say, I was jumping up and down on the inside when he said 490hp.

Mod list:

2002 PI Engine, stock bottom end
On3Performance turbo kit
MPH Turbo/Blower cams
ported stock heads
stock manifolds
75mm T/B & plenum
255 in tank with KB Boost-a-pump, adjustable FPR
UDP's
Motive 3.90 gears

I'm sure I'm forgetting some small mods, but those are the big ones that matter, aside from the stock manifolds of course.

Damn, I HAVE GOT to swap out this blower for a turbo setup.

Congratulations on the build.

LT's ARE a PITA! I've read that manifolds are better for turbo's because they hold in more heat. Not sure if it's true or not, but they work fine for my application. Plus they don't tend to leak near as often as headers.

Thanks. I hope it is quick. I hope to catch some people by surprise.

wow! I guess we can all wait around and see if the rumors of turbo's being a lot easier on stock shortblocks being true or not, cause that's a lot of power for a stock shortblock. I'm crossing my fingers for you man. haha.

You have some good blower grind cams. You'll be fine as long as your tuner knows what he is doing. Did Kurgan tune it? Have three local guys making a little more power than that on intercooled Vortechs with cams and their motors have been together for close to 5 years.

turbo isnt easier on a motor than sc. if it is a proper sized turbo it will hit extreamly hard making a tq and hp spike. the only reason a turbo can make more power over a sc is a sc will suck down power to drive it. so a 400 hp supercharged car accualy makes the same power as a turbo making 440 hp.
