Throttle Body/MAFS
Hey guys... haven't been back since I first posted here about throttle bodies and MAFS (yea everyone hates my cars kit/wing). Finally got the money to do it and I installed the BBK 78mm TB and BA-2400 (90mm) MAFS. Two problems arose.
first... I don't remember it being this way when I removed the stock TB however when I put on the BBK (Everything went super smooth up to this point), the throttle cable seems to have ALOT of play. I mean I can flip the gas pedal up and down all over the place inside. From what I can tell it looks like it's a comon problem with mustangs but I just can't remember it like that. If it IS really common is there a GOOD fix for it rather than the cheap old fixes like putting on spacers at the peddle? I'm not really a fan of rigging things to work... I'd rather fix it the right way... if there is one. second... the air duct that was on the old MAF is WAY too small for the 90mm... so I'm having trouble finding a replacement (the original one was one of those fabric ducts with the steel wire running threw it... I'd like to get something like that as it's pretty easy to work with)... everything I've found is small as hell (autozone, checkers etc. all carry 3 in... I need like 4 1/2). So anyone know where I could get that? I also had a question which never crossed my mind until doing this. Should I reduct all of my intake? Going from 90mm down to whatever the supercharger's intake size is and then back up to 76mm at the TB seems bad. Thanks for any help... |

#1. It is normal to have some slack in the cable. As long as the throttle blade reaches WOT when the pedal is pressed to the floor, it's fine.
#2. I'm guessing you have a centrifugal SC on the car? Have a look here: Intercooler Pipe Fabrication - Silicone Intake Systems Auto Parts

Well that's good. It does go WOT but I am kinda nervous that the cable might come out of the guide... Although the BBK one i got has a piece that helps to prevent that.
yea its centrifugal... Sry forgot to mention that. Thanks for the website. Not exactly what I'm looking for but they have alot of sizes that I can use. Any ideas on whether I should reduct the whole intake system? A dyno tuner here is telling me I should and that I should also move my maf to after the BOV and before the throttle body. Sounds expensive. |

still having trouble finding what I need to get the MAFS connected however (holiday season... everyone closed all the time), I removed the stock cone filter attachement that is right in front of my stock MAFS (at the right fender well). It's like an L bracket with screws attached (that's where the MAFS connectes) and the cone filter on the other side. I'm not sure if it's stock or not but there is a little electrical connector on it and inside of the housing is a black peice with a red nipple... the black piece has a ford logo on it with a hard to read part number. That's why I think it's stock... anyway... anyone know what the hell this thing is and what it connects to? I was trying to relocate new MAFS so I can get it somewhere to a better job... but I don't know if I can if I have to have this little sensor thingy there.

Could you post a pic of your setup? It would make it much easier to determine what we're working with here.

Oh sorry... I found out it is an air intake temperature sensor. Never heard of that ( but most of my experience is with classics ). I got the original mafs back in and the new throttle body is awsome. Car is running so great its making me think to not even bother with the 90mm maf and intake system.
