pilot bearing

As I said in my last thread I am replacing clutch. The kit comes with the throw out bearing and the pilot bearing. I need to know if I have to take the flywheel off to get the pilot bearing out or does it pop out. I have tried to pry on it but I didn't want to damage any thing else so I am not sure what to do

You have to take the flywheel off. Pack the hole with lithium grease and use an old wooden dowel (or something similar in diameter; I used an old clutch alignment tool) to hammer in there. Use it to create pressure behind the bearing. You'll have to pack more grease in the pilot bearing hole every time it moves to maintain pressure, but it works.

If you don't mind me asking, what brand of bearings?

Also, what did you pry on it with? The inner race can't be damaged since the input shaft of the transmission is constantly rotating on it.

Pics if you can brother. Just take that handle off the clutch alignment tool and put that dowel end into the inner race and hit it with a hammer. Easiest way to remove them. Not cleanest, but it works almost everytime.

If you can afford the extra $65 try to go hit up your local Ford stealership and get OEM TOB and Pilot bearing. The stock Ford bearings are great believe it or not.
