Dorman PI intake on NPI heads
Well i was going to do the PI intake swap and it turns out i ended up with a dorman intake.... Will I even see a power gain? I have heard bad things about the Dorman intakes. Will it even work? The gaskets are built into the manifold and Ford wants 1,000 dollars for an FRPP intake lol.

Yes but i only want to do a PI intake to get the gains. Will i see the gains with the dorman PI intake? It cost me for the whole kit 307 bucks new. But im going to take it back if its not going to do anything. Not worth the effort!

It will be fine but if your spending 300 bucks dont do it when ihad my 98 engine it cost me 150 total to do the swap with a new/used manifold.

Im going to order an brand new PI intake off of summit racing. Im talking canadian prices to. I did a little research and the dorman is like an NPI intake modified to fit Pi heads, so its not worth it. It did come with a nice alternator bracket however

ya. you can just return it and get your money back. pi manifolds are all over the place for cheap.

Okay so wierdest thing... It is the PI dorman intake i checked the parts number and everything. and just out of curiosity i lined up the gaskets from my old intake on the Dorman intake. Perfect match.. wtf? The dorman just doesn't have the one rear port which im pretty sure isn't a water port... I don't really understand what is going on here..

Pictures? i am against dorman, i think they have the worst intake manifolds going. You need the dorman brand gaskets for it also. Universal when it comes to car parts, is never a good thing. Go to a wreckers and pull a PI one, they are everywhere!

Have you ever used a dorman??? Ive never personally done a flow test or anything but i can tell you that for bout 30k its held up just fine and doesnt show any signs of being "worst intake manifold going"

I work at a parts store, selling mainly dorman product and its pretty mediocre imho. As far as i know, the stock PI manifold has better flow. They only have to use their own gaskets because the manifold is universal for NPI and PI heads. You have to remember that's all imo. I'm not saying they're terrible, and I'm also not saying don't buy one, I'm simply saying i wouldn't use one on my car.

I have a dorman installed after the cross-over cracked on my OEM.. it's been 30k miles and is fine. Can't even tell a difference other than that upgraded aluminum cross-over the dorman has.

IIRC some frpp manifolds were actually just dormans with ford part numbers. the flow might be different but i doubt its something physically noticeable and no reason to not use it. |
