The OE tob is egg shaped there like a cam lobe. Im sure that points away from the clutch cable in the pivot arm to prevent it from sliding off center. Kinda like a stop.

Correct me if im wrong.

I just put a trans and a clutch & flywheel in my 00 v6 and the oe tob had a cam lobe shape and it was pointing away from the cable side of the arm so I put the replacement tob in the same way. No probs with it yet and its been a week. I think they just made it with a pin because its cheaper/easier.

Hope that helps.

Yes I would. To prevent wear and noise. Most clutch kits should come with grease. At least mine did.

I would also take some sand paper or something and cluean up any rust on the shaft and a rag or something and clean up any old grease that could be left before you install the new.

Thats a big task and to tear the whole tranny back out due to noise or binding or premature wear would be no fun.

Did you look at the OE TOB and was it lobe shaped? Im almost 100% sure that is the only function of that pin/lobe.
