Longtubes?
Im wanting to switch to a set of bbk longtube headers from my bbk shortys. But i have heard some horror stories though..
If you car is lowered they drag the ground?? Hit the steering shaft?? Hit the k member?? Cant drop the trans without pulling the headers off?? (i have an auto) I am only asking now about the install b/c i have the motor and trans out and im thinking it wont be a problem with everything out of the car already. I was just gonna bolt them on while the motor was out of the car then drop motor and trans in the car all at once. will this even work? i was told you have to install them while they are in the car. i feel like thats not true. If anyone has done this before can i get some insight? thanks, Anthony |

Words of advice, dont get something cheep. Wouldn't recommend pacesetter imo. You mind as well change your starter while your at it to because it will be virtually impossible to change it after. Its already a challenge as is. You're also going to want a shorty mid pipe to match up with that.
BBK Ceramic Mustang Long Tube Headers (96-04 GT) 15410 - Free Shipping! MAC Off-road Pro Chamber Shorty Mid-Pipe (96-98 GT) PC2900 - Free Shipping! Thats what i'd do if i were you. |

I personally have bbk longtubes along with the shorty h pipe. My car is pretty low and I do just fine but I avoid big speed bumps to be safe. It was a hassle to install because its crammed in there but the steering shaft was not hit by the headers. Longtubes go under the transmission so yes you would need to remove the headers before working on the transmission. Im planning on getting rid of mine if your interested in a couple months cause I'm going turbo

I had BBK's on my 98 GT and I was lowered with eibach sportlines. I would only drag on big speed bumps. Didn't have a problem with the steering shaft. It will require removal of the headers to drop the transmission.

i was gonna do longtubes but i decided against it as i already love the sound of my stang and dont wanna risk the change. plus they are expensive so i put the money towards a tubular front suspension. better buy imo. but let me ask you this. if you already have bbk shorties why do you want to change?

^ I couldnt agree more. I think there is much more better things to spend your money on towards your car instead of long tubes. IMO though.

The only reason why i've said that is because ive seen them crack after a few months and they tend to turn to black and not take heat very well. Mind you i dont have first hand experience so i'm not really one to voice an opinion on this.

Well im switching it up bc im doing a whole build. i rebuilt the bottom end, i have a set of pi heads that are ported with a set of comp cams. and the whole victor jr intake set up. i was told by some buddies here that the shorties are holding me up and i really need longtubes. so i was just seeing what kind of problems people had first hand.
thanks for the help. |

Sounds like you already have your answers, but I'll chime in just in case. I have BBK full length on a 97 convertible lowered with eibach pro kit. No problems at all. it was a big pain to get them in there, but worth it. Prior to buying these, I had a HORRIBLE time with pypes full lengths. they bolted up, but the steering knuckle and started would not. After calling tech support several times and sending them photos they told me I needed to buy the wilwood steering knuckle and a mini starter. I got frustrated ripped them out and put the BBK's on. no problems. You get what you pay for!
