99 GT Engine Swap

Hello, I have a question hoping to get an answer. Is there a difference between the 99 mustang gt 4.6 and a 96 mustang gt 4.6 when it comes to the engine? Advantages/Disadvantages?

Thanks

I know the 99 has PI heads and is rated for 260hp. Not sure of the 96 power but I know it is lower on tq as well.

The main advantage is the head/intake designs are much better on the 99-04 2v mustangs. Therefore, there is potential for more power with them.

the 96 only have like 215 hp compared to the 240 or something of the 99 and up. the 99 and ups are better like everyone is saying. the heads and intake flow better and will yeild more gains. they both are interchangeable as far as putting them in either car with either tranny

99-04s are rated at 260hp/302tq different heads, cam and intake. and the piston tops are different that why you get a better power number with a pi swapped npi to pi vs the pi engine bc the npi96-98 to pi swap will get a compression bump over the pi bc of the piston top if i remember right.

Are you wanting to swap the 96 into the 99? Or vise versa

There are minor differences, but both will bolt up into your car.

The 96 GT is a Romeo block, remote coil, NPI motor.
The 99 GT is a Windsor block, COP, PI motor.

You will have different intake manifolds, heads, flywheels, blocks, timing covers, valve covers, and possible tensioners.

But that's not to say they're not interchangable. As long as you basically get the 99 as a liftout, you won't have to change anything.

So I can get a 99 gt and put it right in my 96? I am assuming that I can use the same wiring harness and computer?

You'll want to run your wiring harness and computer. It's pretty direct swap

Dont' the 99 gt engines have a different set up when it comes to the coil? The 96 has two 4 pack coils on each side on the front of the engine and I read that the 99's have coil over packs. How do I deal with that when making a swap from a 96 4.6 to a 99 4.6? Its going in a 96 gt 5sp

you can't sawp auto transmissions easily if you have an auto. you have to repin the transmission wire harness and change the solinoids if you dont use the ecu from the doner car.

I do have a 5spd. The main rean why I was looking to do the swap is bc I think my borla stingers that I have on my 96 4.6 will gain a better deeper throaty sound with a 99 4.6

If I just switch the heads and intake out, will I need any additional parts like timing chain and etc to switch the heads or are they a direct swap as well as the intake manifold?
