Gearing up to buy A 96-98 Cobra. Advice is needed.

I need any info you guys could give on these particular cars. My budget is only 6000. What mods should I want the car to have. Most of the ones I see in my price range are normally between 95000 and over in milage. How concerned should I be about this. What should I avoid with these cars as i start to look at them. I live in a great area and see several cars within budget.

if i was you looking for a cobra I would search for the one that is bone stock. that most likely means an older person or someone decent had it and hopefully didnt beat the hell out of it. 95,000 isnt bad but at that mileage make sure the price is right. just make sure the tranny shifts smoothly and the engine runs mint with no knocks or ticks and you should be good to go

Gears like 4.10 and if you don't fear the gear some 4.30's. If you plan on supercharging it then 3.73 would work too.
And obviously check all the other stuff like O2 sensors , plug wires and boots ect before modding things.

Do a compression test before you buy from anyone. I would look for one with bolt-ons at the most. Make sure when you test drive it to get out of the neighborhood an go through all 5 gears. Stick it in 4th or 5th at a low speed, like 35 or below and give it gas to see if the clutch slips and will be needing replacing soon. Look the car over good, and look to see if anything has any wet-ness under the hood. Make sure to get it to operating temp and see what it sounds like then.

with those miles in mind, be ready to do all regualr maintenance things associated with a 100K car. bushings all around, fluid changes in EVERYTHING (trans, axle, motor, coolant...the works) like somebody said before, make sure the clutch is stong and if you have the ability, do a compression check on it too. other than that, Mustangs tend to be decent running/reliable cars as long as you dont skip out on the regular preventative maintenance.
as far as 1st mods go, do FLSFC's, some lower control arms, and some gears (4.10's or 4.30's)

That is good to hear, because most of the ones I see are at least 90000+. Im really starting to get excited about getting a new Stang. I know where most are on the western side of the good ole USA.

The only mods id ever do to a sn95 cobra would be exhaust, CAI, 3.73's and a tune. I wouldn't want to mess around with a cobra. A GT is a different story though. IMO that is.

I wouldnt be worried about the miles at all

I bought mine with 170k miles on it and turboed it. Havent had any problems yet except... I took it to the track and blow the tranny, had to do a full tune up, rebuilt the tru lock and did full bearings when I put new ring and pinon in. Bought it for $2500 bucks after someone put it in a ditch and broke the steering rack.
