Mach 460 Door Speaker Retrofit

So unfortunatly my car didnt come with the 460 option, and i was thinking about swapping it in but decided against it. But i was thinking of buying some door speakers and wiring them up to my factory radio. Mostly jsut becuase i like the way they look. So my question is, can i just bolt them on and splice them into an existing audio wire and get sound threw them? From what i understand there just normal speakers right? Or am i wrong. Any helps appreciated. Thanks!

The speakers at the top of the door are just tweeters. Further more you would have to change door panels as well as the 460 speakers are recessed into the door panels.

You can throw some aftermarket speakers in there and they'll work fine. You can even get adapters to fill the hole if you want to go from a 6x8 (factory size) to something like a regular 5 1/4 or 6" speaker to open up you options as far as variety.

Didnt notice the door panel difference! Thanks! Would there be any real gains for swapping to the 460? I feel like id jsut be better off pieceing together an aftermarket system?

Just change all you're speakers to something decent. All those speakers are 6x8's.

The Mach 460 is basically a pile of junk with a fancy name. Total waste of money IMO. Like 1996 GT said. Swap in some nice speakers and see how you feel about it and build from there.

I just swapped for the 460 trim and put all of my own speakers in. Component in front and in back, sounds wicked even with it out a sub during the winter.

When working properly the mach 460 system sounds good. Unfortunately they rarely work properly as one of the 3 amps goes out. I replaced mine with aftermarket.

I do have a set of black/tan mach 460 door panels for sale in the classified's if you decide you want to do it and have that color.
