Rear-end Guys Help Me On This

Ok basically whats going on is my caliper bracket is hitting my rotor while im driving. i posted a tread on the brakes but i determined its the axle has to much play in it. its pulling out about a good 1/4" to 1/2" in and out. what in the rear end do you think would be cause this? could the retaining clip be worn out or missing?

I'm not sure but it's easy enough to check.

Just pull your diff cover off and see what's happening in there. RTV is all that's needed to put the cover back on.

1/2" of play seems excessive.

Pulled the cover saturday. Looks like the jackwagon that installed the 4.10 gears previously didnt tighten down the bolts on the caps that hold the carrier in so the whole chunk was sliding side to side needless to say. $30 in bearings and $40 in oil. and a few hours worth of work i had her back on the road and its running better than ever
