00 V6 Manual Trans

Ok so a couple weeks ago reverse completely went out in my 00 V6 manual. So I went to the local picking yard where they had one for 400.

Well long story short it was out of an older V6.

Similarities:

Bell housings were both stamped 3.8
Both were borg warner T5
Same overall length

Differences:

Trans mount on new(older) trans was about 3" farther forward
VSS was a cable/sensor deal? Had inputs for both cable and the sensor
Gearing seems different

Problems:

VSS was broke but I plugged it in anyway and only get RPM and up to 20mph?
New Rev limit is 4500ish?
Car seems a really sluggish now like its binding up.

Install went fine. I used the plate from the new picked trans and the old mount bolted to that and it lined back up right. New clutch/flywheel assembly with TOB and PB(OEM). Bolted the Bell housing to the block then bolted the gear box/tail assembly to that went in alot easier and faster.

Filled with the required ammt and type ATF (weird how its a manual and used atf but thats what the book said to use).

Car drives fine through the gears, except for a sluggish feeling and when you start off no matter what rpm 1500-2500 is feels like its going to stall.

Any input to this? And the VSS? I figure a new VSS for an older mustang with a electronic clip will fix the speedo and possibly the false reading on the rpms. if it is false because it still idles at 700ish warm and at around hgwy speed with other cars 2k rpm which should be 75-80approx.

What am I looking at? I you need more clarification please ask and I will do my best.

Ok. Update. All issues are gone except no speedo. I was looking on lrs.com and saw this.

1994-98 Mustang Speed Sensor by Ford at LRS - Same Day Shipping!

Will that fix my speedo seeing how it has the manual and electric vss ports? Sure hope so. Any help is much appreciated.

Swap the speedo gears and shove it back in. Call it a day. Both transmissions are cable driven.

00 v6 is an electric speedo. Didnt catch the different vss issue till the end when i was done.

The problem is i have a cable operated vss t5 and i need a electric one. I tried to switch my electric one into the port but it was too big in diameter for the hole. But the replacement part in the pic has the clip i need plus the cable mount spot. I was wondeing if anyone had any idea as to if this would work.

Idk maybe ill buy it and try it. If it dont work ill just have to buy a rear housing off a newer t5 and swap em out.

Ill make it work one way on anpther i guess.

Ohhh i figured it was '96-'98 due to the sub category you posted in. I'd imagine you can just switch the cluster to an analog one?

When i took the cluster out of my 96 gt i didnt havr a speedo cable hooked to it. Its only the two harness connectors. Just wondering???

I posted in 96-98 because i figured with everybody having cable op speedos here i could get a more definitive answer.

Also does anyone know what the black boot with the 2pin connector deal is on the side of the gearbox? Is that for rpm signal? If i knew what that was i could get a better idea of what needs to be done to fix this problem.
