Long Tube Install Help!

I got a set of Long tubes and were about to drop the new motor in. I was wondering if we should put the headers on the engine before dropping it in. Or should we mount the motor then put the headers on?
All help and advice is great!!
Thanks

Snug the headers on and measure the spread and see it if fits between the strut towers. Might wanna put the motor in with the headers and then install the tranny? Although trannys can be a bitch with headers.

GOOD LUCK! What headers are you installing?

You will not be able to install the tranny with the longtubes attatched to the motor. You will have to turn aournd and pull the headers to put the tranny in. Your best bet would be to stick it all in if it will fit.

Easiest way of course is to drop K-member.

He is saying attach the tranny to the motor and then put the headers on then drop it all in together.

Did not work for me.

When I did my heads and intake I pulled my motor & trans out of the car together.

My pass side LT was fine but I had to pull the driver side to get the motor out. I couldn't get the steering shaft to come out from between the middle pipes of the header.

Bolt your motor & trans together, install pass header then set everything into the engine bay.

Leave your motor attached to your hoist and keep it raised a few inches. This will give you enough clearance to set the driver side header in and still bolt it up to the heads. Then you can finish setting the motor down onto the mounts.

If you can, and I highly recommend it, get a set of Stage 8 locking bolts. They are well worth the money. NO LOOSE HEADER BOLTS EVER.

I wish I had done this, I used a new stud set and am constantly having problems with the nuts backing off. When I replace my clutch and flywheel I am going to install the stage 8 setup instead.

Your a life saver man! My mechanic was saying how much of a pain in the butt longtubes are because of the bolts backing out and how they blow out header gaskets constantly. We just talked about this all today and I told him to skip the longtubes and just put the stock manifolds back on. but if he doesnt have the motor in with the stock manifolds on, Ill buy those bolts and have him put them in. and how well have they worked for you? have you ever had a problem with them backing out since you put them in?
THANKS SO MUCH!

My LT's have been on for 3 seasons now.

I pulled them off after the 1st summer when I did my heads. Reinstalled after head swap with same bolts and locks. It's been 2 summers since my head swap and I've never had to mess with header bolt.

If you remove the steering shafter you can put it all in all together, I know I put a mark8 engine in with pacesetter longtubes installed with the trans on as well

You CAN put it all in together, and that's motor, transmission, and headers. I did it with a f*cking 03 Cobra motor, T56, and Hooker LT's, in the dark, alone.

Make sure you pull the steering shaft before anything goes in. One pinch bolt by the rack, one under the steering column. Take it out.

Stage 8 locking bolts are definitely a good idea. I know there's no way in hell I want to try and go back and tighten those bolts.

Last, a load leveler will help greatly. The toughest part is getting where the LT's bend past the motor mounts. It will probably take some trial and error. Or if you're an idiot like me, alone, in a rush, and in the dark, you'll probably end up scraping your headers on the mounts.

Wow, Im pretty mad. I wish this was like 2 days earlier. I told my mechanic to skip the long tubes and just throw the stock ones back on. I wasted like 400$ on these pipes and now I might just sell them because I don't have the tools to install these things my self. I thought my mechanic was going to be able to do it but I guess not. Thanks for all of the info though guys!
