1.5" rear wheel spacers

Hey.. I've seen these things around... http://www.americanmuscle.com/1in-bi...l-spacers.html and also noticed that my 98 gt rear wheels seemed to be a bit tucked in? Anyone else feel the same? Are these spacers a good Idea.. looks? Any performance issues? Or should I go with a rim that has a greater offset? I currently have stock cobra rims 274/40/17.

Thanks.. if anyone has any pics of a before and after.. that would be great too..

Thanks

These are with s197 rims but you still get the point. Best visual thing ive done to my car, makes it more appealing and tough looking. Yes these are the 1.5'' spacers.

VIB.... 1.5" spacers are a bad idea

Not only because they create an additional strain on the axles/OEM studs, but hate the idea of having a "hidden" set of lug-nuts. Moreover...do you know a 1.5" spacer will work? Have you measured to confirm? I am guessing you have '96~'98 Cobra wheels that are 8" wide with a 275 tire on them? This is too wide a tire for a proper fit on an 8" wheel, so one more reason to get a wider set of wheels.

If you were to get a set of 9" wheels that were designed for your '98, you could use the tires you have, but with the correct off-set. This would move the wheel outward about 1/2" and fill the wheel-wells better with a properly fitted tire

Over rated. It sucks visually too. I have upgraded studs on the rear and now have to run an open lug nut. It looks like ass IMO.

Cut them down so that they are ONLY as long as needed

I run a set of 1/2" spacers out back on my car and had studs custom milled to my specs for a full 1" of thread contact and closed-end nuts. You can do it yourself, with some handy tricks, but was getting new axles installed at the same time, so had my shoppe do it for me at the time

jazzer is right, causes more wear. I have been running a 1.25 inch spacer out back for over a year now. Appearence looks great. Im not to worried about the wear because i only put maybe 2k miles on a year.

The 1.25 is the best, I switched to my 10.5s last summer but when I run 9s all the way around the 1.25s were perfect. The tires were flush with the fender. I still run them on track when I put my 17x9 race tires on.
