breaking up at 3k

my 96 gt pi started running like crap yesterday. everything was fine and now
it seems to either lose spark or fuel and kinda sounds like a two steep at 3k rpm. I'm not sure what it could be because as soon as it gets past 3k it stops and will run fine again . i have changed the plugs and cleaned the maf and it is still doing the same thing. any advice would be grate .

thanks . changing the plug wires and the full filter is easy but how do you check a coil to make sure it is OK ? plug gap is OK checked that last night . i also replaced the maf last night and it seems to be running a little better . at least it did this morning wile taking the kids to school .

check to see if your intake manifold is cracked....

my old 96 used to do that when it was cracked in the front and back of the intake....

Sounds like TPS to me. When a TPS sensor gets worn out it will normally malfunction at a certain rpm range that it sees alot. So it will work at all rpms until it gets to the bad range and then straighten out after that range has passed. Only way to be sure is to either use a meter with an oscilloscope on ur tps sensor or use a scan tool to graph it while driving. Very common problem.
