98 Mustang gt wont turn over

Got in to move my 98 mustang today and it would not turn over. I checked the starter w a screwdriver and it was alive and seemed fine. I then uninstalled an out of use alarm that i had cut the wires to the battery years ago. Still wont crank but now the dash lights wont turn off even after key is removed. I have had the battery disconnected a few times today and over a half hour each time. Any advice?

Alternator?

There is a rod in the steering column that the lock cylinder pushes up and down that puts it into accesory/run start and pushes the ignition switch. It might be broken. That happened to my stang a few years back.

shouldn't be any differences, but for future reference, try and put your post in the 4.6 section.

But It should be the same as the V6's
