96 Cobra question...

So I have a friend that has a 96 cobra that wants to sell it. I know for a fact that the motor in it was changed 2 years ago and was put in by Ford. Its a manual transmission and a convertible. It has never been wrecked. The paint is showing its age as it is 16 years old now. The price that he is asking is $4500. I should jump all over this...right?

Not a bad deal... how many miles on the body? ac, interior condition, hows the tranny shift? Many things play a factor. But if all the car needs is a good buff job then I wouldnt feel bad paying that much. Not a fan of convertables though.

Body has 124353 miles on it. Motor has about 20K. Transmission shifts fine. All accessories work. The wheels are missing the center caps. That is the only thing that i think is wrong with it but I have some chrome 18" Saleen wheels to fix that problem.

That's a great deal. I saw a guy selling a good 98 GT coupe with a blown motor and a wrecked 97 cobra for $3000 local on CL. I would jump on it if I had the time to swap the motor over. Both cars for $3000. WOW.

That's a hell of a deal. Fly me out there for the week and I'll have it installed for you. I seem to have gotten quite a bit of practice installing Cobra motors.

Sounds like a fun weekend car.

Was the motor a fresh motor? or just a swap from another Cobra?

I know I would. In fact I did, in 2006 a buddy of mine asked if i wanted to buy his '97 Cobra w/98k for $4500 and I jumped on it. So if you really want it, go for it. (assuming its in good shape other than old paint).
