Question

New to fords doing PI intake swap

I'm new to fords as well as modular engines and will be doing a PI intake swap. I have a FRPP intake with the aluminum cross-over. I've seen people say use NPI gaskets and others say use PI gaskets. If the experts on the matter could clarify it for me so I don't have to do this more then once. Thanks.

Just finished mine with no issues! Use the PI gasket and put the gasket onto the head and you will see where the coolant ports do not match up. You'll need to use RTV to seal that up. You will also need the PI coolant hose that runs down the middle of the engine valley. And you will need the new coolant nipple. I just used some heater hose and copper piping with some good clamps because ford wanted like 130 bucks for that tube and i couldn't find the nipple. And you will need to tap a hole for the second sensor. I just used my old aluminum crossover off of my NPI manifold. This is also great to do because then the alternator bracket fits properly. If you don't have one then you will also need a PI alternator bracket or just champ it out without one (not recommended...)...
This is a good article on it and there is also one on the forum here.

Heres the link for the one on the forum however there are no pictures. This swap is really easy and it really livens up the NPI motor. It lets it breath waaaaay past 5,000rpm. Mine seemed to choke out after 4800 now it pulls waaaay further up the rpm range. A fantastic mod!!

NPI to PI Intake Swap...

The most important thing is letting the RTV set properly. Make sure it sits for 24 hours!!!

Most def. you will enjoy the intake. i suggest going straight to a different cam. such as Hitech stage 2 or CMS stage 1 for a simple install. Neither require new springs, both make a nice lope and you won't have to worry about doing a swap twice when you get tired of P.I cams lol. Mine got old fast , but im pulling the most out of it through a stock Torque converter.

On the intake swap do use the P.I gaskets and let that RTV sit 24 hours. I did mine, about to redo it soon because after 15k on it i have a slight leak . I used red RTV but i think the black or blue might be better. Not too sure. someone should coin in on that.

I'm not used to a stock vehicle so the lack of top end pull is kind of getting to me. I found the heater tube for $80 at ford but no luck on the nipple. So far it has been one of the least expensive mods I'll have done. I just need to find the nipple so I know everything is done correctly. With the silicone I've read the copper is the best. I may have read wrong so any clarification on that would be wonderful.

I got lucky and found the PI nipple at ford. The part number is F75Z-8555-AA I was quoted $11 so it will be money well spent to do it right.

its a 97. I believe when the motor was in my parents car they had the intake replaced. so ford may have done this once before. I just went ahead and stuck the new coolant pipe in there and all is good.

see.
