Help i need to beat an LT-Junk

My buddy just got a 6spd LT-1 and he just barely pulls on me especially top end. I have a 98 gt with an H pipe, cat back, cold air, and performance clutch. What is the cheapest or easiest mod i can do to make sure i beat him. I was thinking about a pi swap but i wont have the money to get it tuned so not sure if thats worth doing. Anyone have any good ideas? Also i dont want to run nitrous.

You can run a pi swap untuned just fine. That is where you will gain the most hp for the best deal. And then save up for a tune. Then he wont stand a chance. Gears work nice also from what I have heard, but I personaly am going the pi route first. Plus you benefit from a new top end. And after all said and done, I only have 600$ in all the pi parts I need with the only thing used being the heads, but they have been machined and new valve job.

I agree with the gears but you can do the pi swap instead if you want. Either one will definately help you out. Your stock gears are 3.08's so a good set of 3.73's or 4.10's will get you going better.

You may actually pick up a mpg or two in the city because it will take less to get you going.

PI swap then a 100 shot! nitrous wont hurt the car if u have a good tune. and y stop at beating LT-1's. they are the turds in the GM family just like the NPIs are with mustangs. PI swap, nitrous, gears and a tune, plus the other supporting mods, u could make some damn good numbers and put a hurtin on other cars also! good luck!

Highway only about 22.3.

About 14 for the city.

Thats all with 3.73's and a bit of fun driving.

keep in mind that in our year mustangs a tuner won't fix the speedometer when you change out gears. You can go the cheap route and buy a new speedometer gear. I did at first...twice. They are cheap for a reason. Both times they lasted me probably around 500-800 miles before they got chewed up and they weren't even really accurate. I ended up buying a speedometer calibrator and it works awesome and perfectly. The ~$15-20 speedometer gears start adding up if you start tearing through them.

I would do nitrous but Its my only car and I need it to last me atleast one more year. If I did go that route whats the highest shot i should push on a stock motor. Also I was thinking about headers and 373's do headers make much of a difference i already have an h pipe and cat back?
