94 Mark VIII swap into 96 GT

Hey there, I'm a new member, but have read many threads in the last year on this forum. A few months ago I purchased a dohc 4.6 out of a 94 Mark VIII, wanting to drop it in my 96 GT. I have read much conflicting information, but want to get a solid answer from someone who knows. As you know, the Gen I mark engine I have has the intake with the throttle body on the rear of the intake, close to the firewall. I don't have the cash to buy a cobra intake like I want, but want to stick with a mark intake for now. WILL this intake fit into my car without the firewall obstructing the placement of the motor? If it will fit, the only thing I need to buy is some cobra exhaust manifolds or splurge for headers, and I can drop it in. PLEASE HELP! I need this info, because I'll get started on the project ASAP if I can. Thanks!

The motor will fit and is actually better for the 96-98 because the 2 coolant sensors in the corssover and the plug wire set-up valve covers. I have read that the Gen 1 intake mani flows better than the Gen 2 intake mani as well.

And there have been some people on here that have used the Gen 1 manifold and got the engine in fine. But I do not recall if there was any modifications needed to the firewall cowl area to make it clear.

Hope that helped a little. Just go for it if the price is right. You can always get the Gen2 intake manifold from a pull-it yard if you cant make the Gen 1 fit. Should only cost a couple dollars.

Seems like I've seen someone get a gen 1 Mark viii intake to fit with like almost no room against the firewall. But you also have to remember that the throttle body points up so you are going to be running and intake tube going over the manifold. This increases the height of the engine. Without a hood scoop it won't fit

+1. not the best way to go about it but it would give a nice excuse for a cowl hood. i would look for a later Lincoln Mark VIII manifold. you can get those for cheap and it will have the TB inlet on the passenger side. if you need one, i actually do have one...its dirty and would need THOROUGHLY cleaned but i would let it go CHEAP. like $50 +shipping to you.

The cowl hood is not an issue at all. I actually bought the car last year with a giant hood cowl. I am just looking for the best method to accomplish this task. I have gone to the salvage yard MANY times looking for a gen2 intake and have not been able to find one. There is actually a gen 1 mark viii at the yard right now, and I could get the throttle cable from it since I've read that my stock GT won't be compatible. If I do buy a gen 2 intake, I'll need the throttle cable with it too.

LGHTNG02GT, I will definitely keep you posted on what I decide to do. It may end up being better for me to pick up that intake from you. All I know is that my current 2v is TIRED and burns oil if I do not keep like a 70/30 ratio of Lucas oil stabilizer in it.

4vGT,
What kind of tuning did you get? I've been told to get an e-mail tune, or even go to a dyno shop and have them tune it.

For the tune I would call Willie at dirtydirtyracing.com he will set you up with a tune to run the 4v on your 2v computer. If you buy a SCT tuner or delta force tuner, he will send you a tune based on what ever you have done to the car.
His tune shaved a full second off my 1/4 mile time on my mark 8 swap.

Just my .02 on the tune.

Robert

If you reuse your MAFS and injectors, nothing needs to be changed.

IF you change your injectors, delete smog, or anything else, BAMA can tune it with a mail tune, but they dont like to hear you have a motor swap on a GT ecu as they dont have a program written for it-

Best way to tune is to take it somewhere.

i never even considered them when it came to tuning my car. i had it down to two or three guys. one being Joe at Trick Tuners, the guys at SGS performance (a shop here in PA) and then Rick at Amazon. untimately after speaking with Rick on the phone, i decided to go that direction and never looked back.

LGHTNG02GT,
Will you send me an email to discuss the gen 2 intake you have? I haven't posted enough on here to send a pm. You can reach me at a.kamp86@gmail.com

Thanks in advance
