Anyone converted their dash to a 01-04 double din?

Hey, I know this is kinda borderline on posting here or the audio/video. I just thought about this and was looking but didn't find much info. I want to remove my single din dash piece and befall the 01-04 double din piece, so i can fit a nice double din radio in without always having my hvac controls covered by a 7" screen.. the only conclusion that brought my here is crutxhfield only shows like six 7" pop out dvd style headsets and I don't wanna gamble on buying on that doesn't fit.

So if anyone has any info or knows of any writes up that doesn't include using a 2x4 as a space filler, i would really really appreciate it.

I know it will fit but i think the shift boot area also has to use the 01-04 version. Don't quote me on that. but i ran into things looking for a write up to add an AUX port to mine

Do you mean like this?

The peice around the shifter stays the same. You need to do some trimming inside the dash along the bezal with the plugs for the optional switches under the radio.

i thought about putting a double din in my 97 and i thought of just switching the hvac controls where the old cd player was and cutting out the area where the hvac switches and the old tape player went (i'm cheap and didn't feel like modifying to much). you could go that route, you'll still have use of ur hvac system but the down fall is it'll be covered by your shifter. but somethin to think about! post up pics if you do this!

Yes blowerhead. That is exactly what I'm talking about. I've done so much research on this subject that I've come to the conclusion that its not going to be as hard as one would think. I know to cut off two tabs under the bezzel, I'm gonna fabricate some small bracket out of some kind of thin/moderate duty steel. That should be about it. I'll be more than happy to post pics when I do this in the next few weeks. The hardest part for me on this project is sourcing out an 01-04 radio bezzel in good condition that's at a good price.

Good luck finding a good bezel. I ended up buying a new one. I do not remember what I paid for it. I do remember that the plugs for the switch locations seemed to be pretty pricey though.

Yeah, I got a bezel, the buttons that go in the bezel, a 03 shifter bezel and a pioneer p4300dvd double din unit.. so once I get home, I can go to work.
