First of all, your going to need a ReCharge Kit. K&N has one for about 20 bucks.

There are two solvents in the kit. One for spraying all the nasty oily crud off. And the other is like an oil that attracts all the particles of dirt and ect.

Don't damage the wire that surrounds the filter!!! If it's already damaged, just buy yourself a new K&N Filter.

I just wipe it off and then take my air compressor to it and clean everything with it! I have never had a problem!

all filters can be recharged with a K&n. Make sure you wash from the inside out...

i have heard not to use an air compressor... the way i do mine (BBK) is just fill up a bucket with water and let the filter stay in there for a while, then let it sit outside in the sun until dry... a little time comsuming i know but works well.

You wouldnt know if it failed you or not by blowing out the filter you can disturb the packing like casper said which will let in more dirt which will cause faster wear on engine components its nothing you would notice.
