From what I understand if your going to put the time into putting headers on then go with the long tubes. I believe it's a long tube is just better all around issue.

However, I don't know if there is anything with emissions and long tube headers.

longtubes are better then shorties in the HP and torque department
but usually require O2 extensions and a matching midpipe. They can also get in the way if you gotta pull the trans out.You 4.6 people also have
another option Midlengths which does not get in the way of the trans
if you need to take it down.If you buy one of those Bassani or JBA modular midpipes that work with shorties or mids.

This rule applies in general, however it is not just the matter of the header. Overall the engine itself could make more power with one or the other depending on several things on a N/A engine.
1. Primary sizing of the tubes
2. Primary length
3. Cylinderhead efficiency
4. Camshaft selection
The list could go for a while, but you see what I'm getting at.
Alot of people make the bigger is always better mistake, which leads to the I put this on and lost power thread....LOL
If you are looking into headers you'll want to find something that fits your application. It is obvious that a 1 3/4"stepped to a 1 7/8" L/T is not going to work well on a fairly stock to mild build and will probably net less power than a stock manifold. A equal length shorty header would be a better choice for a mild build, a heavily modified car (Blower or nitrous) with a tuned equal length L/T header would be best. I have heard alot of good things about mid length and have seen then work well on almost any application....
