will a 96-98 Cobra wht/face inst. cluster work in my 98GT?

Lets say i can find a stock white face instrument cluster from a 96-98 Cobra...would everything hook up and work properly in my 98GT?

For anyone who has actualy done this or that knows for sure....Would all the warning lights and guages read properly...speedo, tach, fuel ect. ect. or would they need to be "calibrated" somehow?

I am using a Dallas Speed-Cal right now with my 3.73's so i could always calibrate the speedo myself but what about everything else?

I don't think your tach would be accurate along with speedometer. If anything, your redline range will show really high just looking at it. I dunno, that'd drive me up a wall knowing it wasn't true.

The speedo would be off and the rpms would be as well.

Off topic kinda...how are you using a Speed-cal on a gear driven speedo ?

some 98s came electronically controlled, other mechanically driven. (this is wha my tuner told me), personally i think its bs because he wants me to buy a handheld tuner from him

99 was the first year they were using a electronic speedometer. if you had a shop tell you that you needed a speed cal to change the speed then you go burned!

Why would the speed and tach be off?

How is the Tach recalibrated?

This is the speed-cal install tutorial. Don't ask me why or how it works but it works like a champ. I had to use the dip switch setting for a 3.89 gear ratio as opposed to the setting for 3.73's because my tire diameter was throwing off the speedo by a few MPH. http://www.dallasmustang.com/page/speedcal.inst.php

I bought it in a kit with FRPP gears and Royal Purple from American Muscle. (speed-cal) http://www.americanmuscle.com/speed-...tor-94-04.html (pakage deal) http://www.americanmuscle.com/speedc...r-oil-kit.html

matt i said the same thing, the shop, im not going to name names, said that he has seen 98s being both mechanically driven and electronically controlled

money, money, money.

pay 6 bucks for the new gear and 10 minutes time and you have the same thing.....but NO mechanical fauilure to worry about.

You got burned. It will work because it sends different elec. information to the speedo cluster.

Where did all this getting burned talk come from!?!?!? I paid any extra 60 bucks for it and if i change tires i can use it to have a dead on speedo!! AND in my case if i had just changed the gear in the tranny i would have still been off by 4 MPH...thats how much my tires threw it off. AND if i change speedos i can use it to recal that....money well spent as far as i'm concerned.

Can some one tell me whats needed to recalibrate a tach?

when i went to put gears in my 95 Z28, the trannimission place i used told me the same thing. I needed to get a programmer to change my speedo, yet i was still using a gear driven speedo. Its all about making the almighty dollar now a days unfortunately. Actually was one of the reasons i dropped the Z and bought the stang, cost almost twice as much to mod. Eeryshop i went to wanted over a grand for the rear, plus the tuner. I've been quoted for 390 for mustang gear install, including gears and calibration. I love F-bodies but I'm not quite in there Social Class i guess.

money well spent ?

Buy a set of gears, fluid, and a 6 dollar gear that ranges from 3.55 - 4.30's.

Add that up and minus how much you spent on youre :kit:

Im not saying you got taken. But you went the more expensive way around it. You have to remove the shifter boot everytime you wanna change it. And what kinda tires are you changing that makes a HUGE speed difference ? The gear is plastic and doesnt break very often. Youre dealing with an electronic piece of equipment.

Sorry if it sounds like we are making fun of you, which we are not. I was just explaining how it was more expensive in the way you went.

But i guess if you like it and are happy. Then keep it.

Why spend SVT cluster money when you can spend 30 bucks for a white out kit ?

i know for sure what the shop by me was going to do, charge me for the gear install. parts+ Labor 500 and the tuner 400, i know for a fact he was going to say that i needed the electronic tuner, and all he was going to do was put in the mechanically driven device, and not tell me about it. for god sake im smart kid here in a good college, and im dealing with someone who never graduated high school

It's not always about going the cheapest route. Sometimes it’s about convenience sometimes it’s about quality and other times it’s just about what one desires.

Personally i desired the ability of being able to keep my speedo dead on no matter what. If i have to pull a few bolts to do that, so be it.

A $30 sticker isn't the way i want to go. I personally would like the quality of factory white faced gauges...if it can be do...which is what I’m trying to figured out here.
