problem with 98 GT auto

this problem just occured today. not sure why but i was getting into my neighborhood and i stopped at a stop and heard a locking sound in the rear (i suppose), then when i go, i don't even bring it past 2000 rpm and for a second it felt like i lost traction and the car bucked a tiny bit and my friends and i could feel it. i thought it might be something in the rear so i got out and checked at my house but didn't see anything wrong. it only happens when i'm turning left (well, mostly) a few times turning right and barely ever when going straight. also, it only happens in the low low RPMs.

so, when coming to a stop, a locking sound and then going there's a slight buck and feels like loss of traction and makes a skipping sound.

HELP PLEASE
thanks

i had similar problems with my chevy. I fixed it by selling the car to a used car lot.

I hope they crushed her. Apoligies if some smuck bought her, but all the noises in the suspension, and whatever the noise is that RandoGT said shoulda been signs to run

Did you check your trans fluid ? Fluids do not last forever, common sense goes a long way........If your fluid levels are ok you may need at worst a rebuild on the trans. , but that is no reason to run !!!!!!!

well, i just had a tune up not too long ago and changed all the fluids, got a new rear differential and everything. not sure what's wrong with it. i didn't even notice it today except for once. so if you guys know any good advice, i'll take anything. and when i bought it, everything was perfectly fine and it's only in the low rpm levels that it does that stuff so yeah

It is your rearend. I solved this exact same problem by draining the rearend, and filling it with 100% Lucas synthetic oil. I have had no problems since.

seems like it might be the transmission, when coming to a stop there's a locking sound every now and then, i suppose that it's having trouble coming back into first gear

This might be totally wrong, but something to check. Check to make sure the drive shaft bolts are tight and that the rear upper and lower control arm bolts are tight. Casper mentioned once that the control arm bolts are common both front and rear on these cars for needing to be tightened .

If I read correctly you said it has traction issues when you turn left. When this happens does it feel like the suspension is starting to bind and then the tire chirps and it releases this tension force? If so, it is your traction loc causing this issue. You might have the wrong fluid in it.

Good Luck!
