Struts.

Anybody replace thier struts. I'm getting a clunking sometime rattle sound from the front. Both lower ball joints are new. Outer tie rods , both changed by me about 3 years ago. Pads and rotors are 2 years old. I'm thinking inner tie rod or struts. Or outer ties again ? Car has about 98,000 miles. Walt.

I just wanted to know if I can do it myself. Or what to do. The repair book says to chain , and or , jack up the lower control arm to keep everything in place. I assume the spindle and rotor will drop down, but my concern is can I compress the strut with out any special tools ? Walt.

Compressing the strut is easy. You don't have to compress it though. I always jack the car up a good distance and then put a jack under the A-arm. Undo the bolt on top and slowly lower the jack to take tension off the strut. I then remove the two bolts connecting it to the spindle. Remove strut and them install the new one.

Struts are easy! Took me about 3 hours to do mine! Hardest part was the nut on top!
