Theft light blinking , car won't start

Alright so I have a 97 mustang .I went outside this morning to go to work, the car started fine then died within a few seconds then the theft light started flashing pretty fast .and now it won't start at all( turns over fine ) . If I unhook the positive battery cable and hook it right back up the car will start and die . Thn won't start again till I repeat the process . And the light is flaming the whole time . With the car starting when unhooking then hooking the batter cable back up I assume it's not a blown fuse ? . I figure it's something to do with the PATS system . I do not have another key , and car ran fine yesterday . Anyone have any solutions ??

Bout 2 years never had a problem . The car actually starts every time then dies but you gotta turn the key all the way off then on and it'll start . Just don't stay running

my 97 did it to me before when the battery dided we charged it and it wouldnt start and im tearing the fuse box apart under the dash and i seen that there was an aftermarket sucurity system and a toggle switch was missing so i wired in a toggle switch and fucked with it and it started right up

Sounds like your key is bad.

If the key is bad the car might start, but then die from the anti-theft. I can't remember the exact number but I read about an on-off cycle you can do with the key to turn off PATS. I haven't tested it but it might work if you can find the procedure.

Yes, if key is bad, car will start, then die after 2 seconds. It happened to me

You can disable the PATS with a tuner.

+1.. my 97 had that problem.. it would do it randomly, and it was frustrating.. so I just had the tuner Disable PATS and I haven't had a problem since.

Yeah, I was having a problem with mine and did the same thing. It was so much easier than trying to run the problem down. Only thing was after disabling it the theft light would blink for about 2 minutes after I started the car. Finally I just pulled the bulb out.

Prior to 03 the vehicle was allowed to crank but fuel delivery was disabled. After 03 ford incorporated the PATS system into the starting system. Get a locksmith to program a new key to your vehicle.
