low fuel pressure

well on the 98 i checked it out earlier, and i found under idle it's around 32psi and under a load it's at 35 psi.. i'm attributing that to why my car leans out at higher rpms. i don't know what to replace. the fuel pump is fine, sea foamed, new filter.

my 98 has the fpr on the fuel rail, is there any way to get a an adjustable fpr to work on it or do i have to get a 92-97 fuel rail and add one?

any other help as to why i might have low pressure is appreciated. thanks

well the SVT focus pump is going in tomorrow. nabbed me a PI intake, and PI heads for under 100 bucks with less then 30K on em.

i want to do new valve seals and new valves so it's all fresh. anyone recommend a good place to buy those so i don't have to get raped by the blue oval?

also i got a question - theres some diaphragm on the return line on my fuel rail on the right side, what is that? what does it do? i looked on other mustangs and other 4.6's and some have em, some don't, so i don't get it.

one last thing, on the back of my stuck on fuel pressure regulator theres a snap ring, does that mean you can replace the internal portion of the fuel pressure regulator or not? thanks.

You may want to double check if that focus pump will work, I have read that the 98's will only work with the walbro pump or the factory. The '99 + are a returnless system only having a feed, your has a return as all the 96-98 stangs. If it work you'll be one of the first, if not, don't make me say I told you so.. Again I'm not trying to offend you just going off what I've seen happen to others.

As for the valves, no need to replace them unless they are bad (Burnt). Usually a little lapping compound and a hour or two and they are good to go. Be sure not to mix the valves up.... Valve seals would be a good idea and are usually available at the local parts store. I would reccomend replacing the springs while your at it if you plan to ever run a aftermarket cam, this will save you doing so later..

Check this out, it may clarify some of this. http://forums.modulardepot.com/power...n-again-2.html

Some guys have said they can run the focus pump but wiring and other modifications were required. Sorry for the misinformation.

everyones assured it did, as did the head of Powered by Ford here in orlando which is who we ordered it from it just drops in so.. i don't know.

as for the valves the reason why is they came from a wrecked car and u never know. i used to have a drag neon (yes, a neon) and we slapped another dohc head on it - went around the block 2 times and the car wouldn't start - had a bent valve and didn't even know it. so i don't know.

'99 was the first year for the returnless and the variable voltage pumps. I only expressed concern due to the fact the '98 has been deemed the bastard year for the gt's. Installing a variable voltage pump is possible but basket removal or modifications and rewiring are required. From the information I have collected in misc. searches shows the pumps were moved on the models after '98. I have read about people doing the 99+ swaps and it is not a direct swap. I have shyed away from 98's for this reason, I would be glad to hear if one out of all of them would work as a direct swap.

I took the time here to do a search and found interesting info, I just hate to see people throw money away..

the only difference was the tune in the ECU and apparently some say the heads flow a little better and are designed a little better.

But I believe that its only the tune!

I believe we have a winner :award

Also the '98 did have a unique tank from the rest, Ford decided to make the "transition" parts in '98 but did not finished until beginning production of the 99.

So, if someone were to put a 98 PCM in a 96,97 car it would gain some power?

That I'm not sure of, however if you want the power the safe way is to have it tuned with the correct year ECM.

Yeah so John if you put a 98 tune in our cars we would have the same amount of power as the 98s! But if I am going through that trouble I am going to get a better tune than just the 98 something like a bamachips tune
