odometer failure

My odometers quit working this morning on the way to work.
I checked fuses but I don't think there's one for the odometer. Ideas?

Well if it is broken, then the speedometer wouldnt be working ethier. But I have no other solution, except that I learned today that the speedometer is electronic at the gauge cluster, so maybe on the gauge cluster something is loose!

Yeah I dont know maybe that would be my first thought as well, but after learning about what I did today I think it could be just a loose wire in the back or something

yeah that just got me thinking, why doesnt autometer say thats for us 94-98 guys? it just says it for the 99-04 guys. I think I will be giving the shop a call here soon and asking why I cant use one of those! Cuz I have always thought it would look really good with a lunar series autometer cluster with a double gauge pod on the piller!

Here is what the ford technician site says.

The odometer receives a voltage signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731).

Speedometer
The speedometer receives a voltage signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) (9E731). The VSS is a permanent magnet generator that is driven by the speedometer drive gear (7G237) inside the transmission. The VSS outputs a frequency that is proportional to the vehicle road speed.

Ummm.........ok. Yeah, speedo works fine. I read on a site about volvo odometer failures that sometimes the little gears get stuck when you reset it while the car's moving but I think I'm gonna have to take the dash off and try to unjam it, replace it or whatever. We'll see. It's just annoying having to keep up with my mileage. At least I know how far it is to work.

Hey Matt....I read that speedo thing and it confused the hell out of me! Does it just seem that hard b/c i was reading it and then easier when you're in there and can see or is it just an overall pain in the @$$?
