My car keeps throwing P1443. (emission control valve malfunction) it goes off when my fuel level changes from full to low or i fill it up again. then it comes back on in a day or so. any suggestions. what are the odds its the purge valve solenoid on the carbon canister?

Your over filling your car and its leaking into the evap system stop forcing so much gas into it. after it clicks even out ur dollar if your close enough to do it in one or 2 clicks other wise stop or u will have to start replacing evap parts.

purge valve & charcoal canister. i threw a p1443 last summer and replaced them both, 100 bucks roughly at the ford dealership, problem = solved.

ask chris (97Cobra) - he may still have the pics & part numbers of the parts required... he helped me out way back now I'm passing on the info to you.

before he starts replacing parts lets see if the way he fills his car is the issue this is actually very common amongst all ford cars when you over fill them the Evap system get completely full of gas cuz youve forced it into it. if its not to far gone if he stops over filling it he wont have the DTC any more.

my car just through this code last night. I haven't been filling my tank up for about a month, just throw 20 or so bux in once a week cause i rarely drive the car. The light stayed on and when i went to leave this morning the CEL was still there. I stopped to get lunch, and after i left the deli halfway to the shop i notice the CEL was off. I also ran out of gas last week, could this be related to the problem?

I replaced the solenoid and sensor and that cured it. Honestly, they are just a huge pain in the long run and I wouldn't worry too much about it. My light stayed on more than it stayed off, but I could definitely turn it off if I pulled the negative off the battery. It would usually pop back on within an hour of driving tops. It only ever went off once that I can remember, and that was after 20 runs at the dragstrip.

Are you Canadian?

"ooff"

Also, if it does go back on, (let us hope it doesn't) then replace the sensor first. Both parts are easy to reach, but the sensor is right there on the top. Not only that, but more importantly it is only like 20 bucks or so. The damn solenoid was a lot. Replace the sensor if the light doesn't turn off. Also, after replacing it and it stays on remember to disconnect your negative terminal for a couple minutes to reset it. I didn't do this and I could have potentially saved myself sixty dollars. :lala

i used the search feature and read all the post concerning this. One of them had to do with overfilling and leaving ur car running while filling up. I'm 90% confident it was a result of this, but if the light does come back on i'm going to replace the sensor first like u said.
How much was the solenoid just so i can prepared for it?

and i'm not canadian.....i'm just a bad typer

so the light came back on last night for the first time since it went off.

I'm 99% sure she's throwing the same CEL.

Again, my tank was 1/8 of the way full, maybe even less in there. I def think that it's related to me running out of gas last month.

I should go about replacing the solenoid sensor first to correct this problem?

probly doesnt matter to you guys. but just taking the neg cable off, just clears the codes. but it doesnt clear them out of the CMDTC. (continuous memory)

i already new about that...

haven't done it yet, lights only came on twice, about 3 weeks apart as is off on it's own. I didn't get a chance to scan it the second time b4 it went off, but it went off under the same conditions as last, so I'm assuming it's the same reason.
