Piston difference

Are there any difference in the pistons from 96-98 v.s 99-04?? I thought I read somewhere that the pistons in 96-98's have a higher dome. Don't know if it was B.S. or not.

They should be about the same and the only reason you get a compression increase is because the combustion chambers are different in PI and Non PI heads

No if they were the same than the 99 would have the higher compression also, the 98 and under has different pistons

The 96-98 have a smaller dish in the pistons than the 99-04's.

So the 99+ have a bigger dish with a smaller combustion chamber. And the 98- have a smaller dish with a bigger chamber? Then how come I hear that a 98- with PI heads is more powerful than a 99+ (which already has PI heads)? I mean, wouldn't a bigger combustion chamber mean a bigger dish??

The pistons on the 96-98 have a smaller dish than the 99+, the heads on the 96-98 have larger combustion chambers to lower the compression ratio. When you install the 99+ heads on the small dished Npi pistons it raises the compression ratio over a full point to somewhere around 10.4:1.
