short block vs long block?

So I have never been explained the difference between the two. Is the displacement the same? can you go from a short block to a long block and everything bolt up fine? Which one is better? I am lookin at gettin a new block with stroker kit already installed so all the work of gettin it bored and balanced and all is done. but which one is better?

A long block is a shortblock, with heads and intake on there already. Basically a long block is something you just put in your car and go, where a short block it just the block, pistons, rods, crank, oil pan. It depends on your plan of your car which is better and I would say get a shortblock and reuse your heads and everythign! it will be cheaper!
