getting up to 400 HP

hey, i was reading Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords and i read some stuff on poweradders and some blocks before the poweradders had up to 400 HP. and they were somewhat stock blocks. i was wondering if putting in a a 2000 Cobra crank, i forgot what kind of heads it had, and some new pistons (all forged) can get me nearer to 400HP with some other obvious mods.

yeah, i'm not really planning on actually acheiving 400HP without a poweradder. anyway, anyone know where to get new pistons and crank? i've just been wondering if after i get my PI swap if i can get some pistons later on to lower the compression for the poweradder

yeah you can! A 18cc piston will work perfect once the PI swap stuff is on unless you plan on running major boost on pump gas. VT engines will have pistons for you

alright. cool. yeah, i was just looking at them. will a stroker kit do some REAL good for the HP? and also, say i was to get a stroker kit from VT, would i want it bored over or just keep it like it is?

also, Matt, you really seem like you know a lot about our cars. i asked this in the exhaust forum but got no response so i was just gonna throw it out here. do longtube headers only fit manual transmissions?
i was looking at Bassani and BBK and they say only manual and i have an automatic

I say if you want to forge your internals, that you should not stroke it. Because if you drive the car hard and take it up higher in the RPMs than you should you will ruin the engine. I say if you want to up your displacement, you should do a big bore of about 3.700 inches. This will allow you to take your motor to really high RPMs 8000+ and still be reliable. This is also expensive, but its a cool way of doing things! And if you are going to go with a new iron block which I recommend, because its only like 300 bucks you wont have to get it over bored but if you use your used existing block you will have to get it over bored .020 and that alone will be about the same amount of money as a new block. .020 will increase the displacement to a 284 with the stock stroke lenght.

As for headers I really dont know, but I will check into it for you!

Well I have done a little reasearch. MACs, CAMs, SLP, Hooker, Kooks will all work the the auto. My suggestion is the CAMs, because they are a killer deal and I believe are of great quality! That is what I will be going with with mine! But beware, you wont beable to drop the tranny with out taking the headers off!
