taking just the housing off? yeah It would add a few hp and would sound a little better, but why not just buy a CAI and swap the whole thing out

I'm thinking you must mean the air silencer...
if you take off the housing that holds the filter, you just won't have a filter at all.

I agree with StangFreak4 on the CAI, it's like 30 bucks on eBay.

well, i'm assuming that all CAIs aren't created equal so 30 bucks on Ebay would be the same thing as what i have now

in all honesty, they are created equal, except for the filter. the tubing makes no difference, that part of it is all the same. some will argue the metal vs. plastic thing...I don't really know if that makes a difference, but not much if it does.
spend 30 bucks on an eBay CAI and then by a nice K&N filter to replace the cheap ass one that comes with it. you'll still save some money over spending 150+ for a whole K&N CAI.

yeah the only thing that ive herd about the difference in the metal tubing from the plastic is the obvious difference in heat

Any CAI is a waste of money if the rest of your motor is stock. They look pretty ,but the biggest they suck is your wallet.
