Intake manifold

Well, go figure... My plastic piece of crap NPI intake manifold finally gave out on my 97 GT. I've been noticing that I was losing fluid but couldn't figure out where it was coming from. I finally found an extremely small crack in it and must replace it. Can anyone give me any idea as to how long I can expect to spend on putting a new one on? I don't have a ton of money to upgrade to the PI intake so I'm going to have to go with an upgraded NPI and was wondering what kind of time frame I'm looking at spending on putting the new one on. Also, any pointers would be greatly appreciated guys.

What other mods would I need to do if I wanted to put this one on my car? I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to doing a NPI to PI swap. I just want to make sure I have everything in order before I go and
put it on.

Ok so my next question is how much taller is the PI intake versus the NPI intake? Will it fit under the stock hood without any problems?

Since I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a new PI intake or a used one, where could I find a gasket kit for a used one? I know it will need new gaskets unless a used one happens to come with one. Just out of curiosity, what kind of power gains will I get from a PI intake over my stock intake? I'm not expecting much at all, maybe a few hp.

Talk to Randy over at ModularDepot.com. He'll get you eveyrthing you need to put the intake on. He's actually on vacation right now until the 13th....if you can wait that long. I'd say atleast 15 RWHP from the PI manifold. They flow ALOT better than our stock ones. But that's just a rough guess on the HP gain. But, there WILL be a gain none the less. (Someone chime in here who's already done the sawp...)
Go for the PI manifold. It would be stupid to go through the time and effort to keep the car the same. I always say when something breaks it's time to get something better!! Go for the PI!!

Sounds like a plan to me... I was thinking of upgrading the intake plenum and throttle body also. What would be a good size and set up to go with? I already have a full catback with bbk o/r x-pipe, 40 series flows, Grantelli MAF and am waiting on a CAI. I'm just trying to make sure it all flows good. Later on down the road, I will be upgrading from the stock cam and adding 4.10 gears (unless other gears would be better with this sorry auto I have) but that will have to wait.

I am thinking of going with a 75mm just in case I need more air flow. Any suggestions on gears for this sorry automatic? It shifts harder than any automatic I've ever driven (barks 2nd any time I run it hard) but it still doesn't pull like I want it to. 1st gear is an absolute turd and it doesn't really start pulling until about 3k in 2nd.

4.10s will take care of that and 4.30s will feel even better!

I was thinking 4.10's... what would be the best route to take when trying to recalibrate the speedo? I have heard that you can't do it with a hand held since it's not a 99 or newer. Would it be better to change out the speedo gear or have it tuned somewhere? I wouldn't care about the speedo but the cops here in Mississippi are absolutely merciless on a mustang owner and I can't afford another ticket.

Somewhat... I know 3 cops who have Mustangs but for some reason, they will even tell you that a cop will pull over a mustang faster than just about any other car. Last 2 times I got pulled over, all they wanted was to talk about my car. Go figure... I guess they had nothing else to do on a Friday night

Can any of you tell me if the PI intakes I have found on Ebay would be worth buying? There are a ton of them on there for around $200 shipped. Would these be worth my time? If so what else would I need to buy to make them work on my 97 GT? Will the fuel injectors, rails, and alternator brackets be interchangable?

You can get the PI intakes new for $200, you will need different alternator brackets, water tube and something else, i just drew a blank.

Here are the parts you will need to complete the swap!

Intake of course
PI Coolant tube
PI Water Pump nipple
PI intake gaskets
Toyota FIPG Black

The altenator bracket is not needed, I just moddified the one I had and made it work.
