Putting in cobra engine in Mustang GT

I have a 1998 Mustang GT. I am looking to put in a cobra engine. Can any one tell me if I will have to alter any other parts or can I just purchase the engine and install it will the original mustang components. I am also looking to put on a cold air intake. Do you have any other suggestions to increase performace to the engine?

Well its a big involved process for the swap, you will need the computer and wiring harness, reconfig your keys, exhaust. And also a cold air will not do much for ya, the most any cold air will give you is between 5-10 hp if you are lucky. The best bang for buck would be a full exhaust and gears. With your 98 i would say go get a pi head conversion kit and some cams and exhaust and you would be making enough power to hang with most cars.

Do you think it is worth putting a cobra engine in it. Are there things I can do to the existing engine to make it just as fast? I havent made any alterations to the car yet except I put flows on it with H pipes.

like i said above, keep the engine you have, buy some ported pi heads which are heads in 99-up, some stage 2 cams from say VT, and pi intake, mac headers, mac pro-chamber, and mac cat-back, and some 410 gears and a good tune and call it a day. That should give you over 300 at the wheels. Then when you get ballsy throw a 100 shot on it.

Thanks. Would you happen to know an estimated cost for all this? Is it cheaper?

Well it does cost a pretty penny, i think it might be cheaper than buying and getting a cobra motor installed. heads usually run anywhere from 1500-3000 depending on how heavily ported. Cams are only like 500 bucks, full exhaust from mac about 800 bucks, gears from mustangs tuning 135. The install cost is whats gonna be more, prob around 1000-1500 for labor for all that. oh yeah and for a tune around 500 bucks but if you can find a used chip and have it done for around 150. where are you located

I am in Maryland. What would be the best thing for me to do first since it is pricy? I am not mechanincally enclined. What kind of shop should I take it to? Im guessing I shouldnt take it where I would have oil changes etc.

Let me know if you pm him cause he doesn't come on here too much and i can give him a call and let him know.
