Replacing Clutch

I am in need of a throw out bearing in the worst way. (awful squilling) I am going to buy the spec stage I clutch via americanmuscle.com. I am just wondering what installations involves. I know I need to drop the driveshaft, then remove the trans. When removing the trans should I remove the bell housing with it or seperate the two. Or are the bellhousing and trans made together? Once that is out I just unbolt the pressure plate and swap the old clutch disc etc. Basically, should I look out for any common problems or is it pretty straight forward. Is exact torque specs important? I will be following a haynes manual. Any helpful hints or recomendations would be appreciated.
thanks
I have a 1997 GT

Oh yeah.......I had to drive my car a pretty good ways with it squealing. I could feel a bumping through the clutch petal also. If the throwout bearing went completely out could it of damaged my trans's input shaft?
